Robert McMaster
July 6, 1915 - February 9, 1999

BOB McMASTER was a charter member of our club and three times club president. He generally led a ride a month, helping any rider whose bike needed adjusting and sharing his vast bicycle knowledge and experience with younger club members.
    Bob had great skill in signing up sponsors and doing bicycle tune-ups for the benefit of the Association for Retarded Citizens. He became a major - and once the top  - fundraiser for  their bike-a-thon. 
    Bob lived with  enthusiasm in all that he did. His consistent good humor and unwavering commitment will assure that his spirit lives on in those who knew him. 
    Randy recently got a call from Bob's daughter (Bobbie Smith) about her grandmother's (Emmie Coward) wonderful 100th birthday party.  There were about 70 friends and family in attendance at the community center for this auspicious occasion.  Emmie wanted to thank everyone in the club for their cards and greetings.
Bob cuts the Watermelon Each July, on the first  Sunday after his birthday, Bob would commemorate his birthday with a club ride having a picnic at Cedarville State Park and watermelon at the end of the ride. Initially, he would ride a distance in miles equal to his age. As Bob approached his eighties, he changed from miles to kilometers. Last year, cancer kept him from riding more than the distance from the Cedarville Grocery to Cedarville Park and back.  Bob was waiting for us back at the school with a big smile and cold watermelon. The club will continue to have an annual July picnic and watermelon ride in memory of Bob.
