3-BUMP CHUMP Class B+/A 35-50 mi. 9:00 AM from Manokeek Village Center. A workout ride with push points and rest sections to gather everyone up. Be ready to pedal and not take any stopping breaks, as the workout will be much more effective that way. The shortest distance is 35mi, and depending on the group, can be extended to 50+ with the right group. A fun ride, but you will work! Water available on route, bring a snack to eat on the bike. AMS doesn't matter, it's about the shorter push sections quality. Cheers!

GETTYSBURG TOUR Class CC/TOURING 58 mi. 10:00 AM from Emmitsburg Community Park. I usually start the Gettysburg Battlefield tour in Thurmont, but this year the only weekend I don't have a conflict is the weekend of the Catoctin Colorfest - during which 20,000 people will fill the park we usually start from, as well as every other parking space in Thurmont. So this year I'm starting the ride in Emmitsburg, farther up US-15. There's a silver lining, though: because the route to and from the battlefield is shorter, we can spend more time and mileage exploring the battlefield, visiting parts of it we've never been to before. 58 miles, 2750' of elevation gain. Route map and GPS files are in the Club RWGPS Route Library: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28723331?beta=false and the cue sheet is in the Cloud: https://goo.gl/T1N5Bg This is a BYOQ (Bring Your Own Cue Sheet) Printed copies available by prior arrangment.
Dir: Take GW Parkway to I495 to I270 north to Frederick MD. Continue on US-15N past Thurmont to Emmitsburg. Take a slight left onto US-15 Business N / S Seton Ave. In 1 mi turn left onto Cedar Ave to Emmitsburg Community Park. It's about 15 minutes beyone Thurmont, so be sure to allow adequate time for travel.

The route can be uploaded into your gps device from the club's Route Library (MV 45 Manokeek Espresso). I will have cue sheets. Other class riders are invited to come, choose a ride leader, and go at your pace.

HORSESHOE TT Class ALL 10.8 mi. 9:00 AM from Livingston Road Parking Lot for IHRT. For anyone wondering where their fitness level truly is, there's no hiding in a Time Trial. Psych yourself up, and be ready to race the clock and your mind on "The Horseshoe TT." It's a rolling course reminiscent of the Davidsonville TT, with 330ft ascent and 370ft descent, over a fabulous 10.8mi clean road with only 2 turns and generally light traffic. Warm-up on the IHRT or Chicamuxen. The route starts at Bicknell-Rt turn Mason Springs-Rt turn Smallwood Church Rd to Finish at Chicamuxen. Cool down is anywhere. Been doing this route for 2 years and a "not too shabby" time is 30-35mins, so you can expect a 1hr to 2hr ride day. Please text me your name and ride category by Fri Oct 19th so an informal roster/start can be formulated. Stingrays to Cervelo's it's all good, bring what you can roll! Cheers, Michael * Not USAC or USAT sanctioned, but there is a cool perpetual trophy and bragging rights.

WEATHER RULES

Unless otherwise stated, rides may be canceled if the temperature is less than 40 degrees or the chance of precipitation is greater than 50% on www.weather.com during the ride. Call the ride leader if in doubt.

Ride Leaders Guidelines

  1. Prepare a cue sheet and/or map (either new or existing club route) and scout the route before the ride. You may use cue sheets in the club's cue sheet library. Other good places to find cue sheets or to create a cue sheet are www.BikeRouteToaster.com, www.RideWithGPS.com, www.Bikely.com, and www.MapMyRide.com.
  2. Submit the ride to the Ride Schedule with the online Ride Submission Form.   Rides submitted will automatically appear on the online schedule. To submit multiples rides, use your browser's "back" button to return to the ride submission form.
  3. If you have a cell phone, include its number on the cue sheet and have your cell phone on during the ride.
  4. Arrive 10-15 minutes before the ride start time.
  5. Have all riders sign a release sign-up form.
  6. Give all riders a cue sheet and/or map.
  7. Welcome the riders and brief them on details of ride stops, problems, pace, etc.
  8. Make sure the riders wear helmets.
  9. "Lead from the rear" or appoint someone to "ride sweep!"
  10. Ride at the advertised pace!
  11. Carry the sign-up sheet with you on the ride so that you have riders' emergency contact information if needed.
  12. After the ride, post your ride report at http://ohbike.memberlodge.org/reports.

Rider Responsibilities

  1. Arrive early to sign-in and be ready to leave on time.
  2. Some starting points do not have restrooms, plan accordingly.
  3. Make sure your bicycle is in proper working order before you arrive.
  4. Carry a spare tube, patch kit, pump, water bottle and snack.
  5. Carry identification and emergency money.
  6. Sign a ride waiver and get a cue sheet and/or map from the ride leader.
  7. Wear a helmet!
  8. Practice safety and obey all traffic laws.
  9. Do not "bike off" more than you can do. Go on rides within your ability, interest and experience level. If in doubt, phone the ride leader.
  10. Riders should maintain the pace as advertised. The rider may ride faster or slower than this pace if s/he knows the route and advises the leader accordingly. In this case the leader will not be responsible for the cyclists safe return or completion of the ride.
  11. Riders should advise the ride leader if the rider will not complete the ride or deviate from the designated route.
  12. Riders should warn nearby cyclists of road debris or, when in the rear, warning leading cyclists of approaching motorists from behind.
  13. Riders should as simple courtesy help out others with mechanical problems. Riders will try to help but there is no obligation to wait for cyclists with major breakdowns.
  14. Riders should use common sense and courtesy.
